CHURCHES ON-THE-HILL FOOD BANK
The Toronto Leaside Girls Hockey Association (TLGHA) is supporting the Churches On-The-Hill Food Bank by hosting a food donation drive at its tournament. A drop-off bin will be located at the entrance to the William Lee Room at Leaside Memorial Gardens (Tournament Headquarters). The Churches On-The-Hill Food Bank is currently in most need of the following food items: canned tuna, soup (dry and canned), dry pasta, pasta sauce, Kraft dinner, peanut butter, crackers. Please give generously as you come to Leaside Memorial during our tournament.
The Churches On-The-Hill Food Bank is a 100% volunteer organization with about 125 individuals giving of their time and talent. Under the auspices of the Daily Bread Food Bank, they operate an "Emergency Food Program" which supplies groceries to households in mid-town Toronto who have a place tolive but whose income is frequently insufficient to make ends meets. The result is all too often that they go hungry for a short period. In 2008, the Churches On-The-Hill Food Bank provided over 11000 adults and children with groceries sufficient for 3 days; that amounts to food for some 100,000 meals! The Daily Bread Food Bank supplies about 60% of the food that the Churches On-The-Hill Food Bank distributes; local food drives (such as the one that our tournament is hosting), church collection baskets and donations of food from individuals contribute perhaps another 5% and the balance is purchased.
